30 September: Time to complete and work with the big ideas from Jared Diamond documentary which works into the idea of Useful Organisms
1/2 October: PowerPoint over diffusion and the movement of 5 major innovations, as well as, introduction work over strong theses. Time given in class to work on the work that has not been completed over the past few classes. 3 October: Early humans article was given that helps to connect concepts to historical examples. A study guide was given to students to help assist for the Unit 2 test on 7 October. -Some big ideas to know for the unit 2 test are; The 5 innovations, their location of origin and date. The 3 major requirements for civilizations Knowledge of important plants (cereal grains) and animals (uses) Location of areas on a map 4 October: Working with the idea of Geographical Luck in a Proof, worksheet given will be an assessment grade .23 September: Unit 1 Test 24/25 September: Introduction to Unit 2, working with the major social revolutions (handout given), and understanding why humans went from hunter-gatherer to farming. 26 September: Jared Diamond documentary called "Guns Germs and Steel" but watched only episode one. Students filled out guided notes while completing 27 September: Breaking down the documentary and working with the major quotes from the documentary and the big ideas 16 September: Intro questions regarding wealth and income disparity, partner work on Sorting Opportunities
17/18 September: 4 charts on wealth disparities and perception of wealth and answering question on worksheet, watched TedTalk on deconstructing racism 19 September: Interacted with The Guardian and the data they compiled to find trends on fatal police shootings 20 September: Gender bias and the stereotypes associated to each of the sexes, gallery walk interacting with data, and a brief overview of the quiz on Monday 9 September: Presentation of Historical Figures and discussion of historical significance 10/11 September: Students wrote from memory about what they did in class on the previous Friday, Then we talked about perspective and scale, specifically how memory and individual perspectives can change and alter history. Further we watched a video discussing the problems with singular stories and discussed the implications of the video. 12 September: Intro task which was a pre-attitude survey, then worked with vocab and examples of the vocab in groups. Further we started the conversation about perspective. 13 September: Malcolm Gladwell TedTalk, further discussion on perception, looking at maps and the potential problems they may present. Map projection packet handed out.
4 September: Handed out the syllabus, went over expectations, and handed out the historical figure assessment due 9 September.
5 September: Talked about big items in the Syllabus, introduced who I am to the class, and asked students to fill out a personal survey. 6 September: Formative writing assessment |
