25 November: Started with an overarching question, discussing the impact the Mongols had on Europe. Specifically discussing if they played a role in the success of Europe. Then moved into an introduction into the black death and a brief description talking about the disease and its impact. Played a parody that helps students understand the black death in 3 minutes. 26/27 November: Watched the second Episode in Guns, Germs, and Steel. Students had a guided questions paper to complete while watching the film. Email me with any questions you may have. 28 & 29 November: No School, Enjoy your break! 18 November: Brief talk about when the test will be reviewed and some of the logistics associated with it. Introduction into Unit 4 which will be discussing Globalization and Conquest looking specifically into the Mongols and Spanish. Students then given time to work with some Globalization examples, determining if/why they should be considered an example of Globalization.
19/20 November: PowerPoint discussing the Mongols and the sheer size of the land they controlled. Then students broke into groups of 2 or 3 and started working on a Webquest that helps better understand the impact and success of the Mongol Empire. Students had period to work on this. 21 November: Made the connection of the overall topic of Globalization to the Mongols and their influence historically through conquest and diffusion. Students then interacted with data, specifically the recorded casualties of certain cities the Mongols attacked, to draw conclusions and inferences about the events. 22 November: Students were given a worksheet that helped to bridge the topics discussed in the prior day with Globalization as an idea, as well as, another document that had them interact with five different sources to continue to help them with their ability to draw inferences on the impact of the Mongol Conquests and influence. 11 November: Veteran's Day, No School
12/13 November: Brief PowerPoint about the Fall of the Caliphates and paper about the factors that played into the fall. Then an overview of the test was given with a Study Guide that will assist in students understanding the expectations on the Exam. Look on Assignments page for link to Unit 3 Study Guide. 14 November: Day dedicated to going over the Study Guide and students took part in a Kahoot. Both the study guide and Kahoot are available for students to continue to use to study for the Unit 3 Test. 15 November: Unit 3 Test taken today. If absent, come see me as soon as you return to schedule the makeup test. 4 November: Continued working on the trade map from the Abbasid Caliphate then started a document that assists in breaking down each of the Caliphates, as well as the golden age of Islam. This document also has the students fill in details about each Caliphate, which will assist in making distinctions between the ones being studied.
5/6 November: Continued work on the overview of the Caliphates, then students split into groups and started their Golden Age of Islam poster project. Each group will be linked HERE with their topic responsibility. 7 November: Day dedicated to continuing work on the Golden Age of Islam poster, due a the beginning of class tomorrow 8 November: Poster gallery walk where students interacted with all the posters to get an understanding of all 12 topics. Students were given a handout to collect the information. |
